Maybe I'm underestimating the problems a solution might create, but at the moment I don't see them. The solution seems quite simple, and it is working for me.
Beside that, thank You for this extremely useful module.

My tokens still are not being replaced, however this was my first time patching a module. After I ran the patch I could clearly see that the patched file (views_handler_field_regex_rewrite.inc) was different than the original.
Is there something I am missing? That is the only file I saw that was changed.
