Since the Drupal Association has not chosen to post it, I will.

Email notifications have now been added to forum posts. If you reply to a forum post, you will now automatically receive email notifications for replies to that forum post. At the moment, you cannot disable this setting, though there is an issue started to add this option to the user control panel: https://www.drupal.org/node/2658224

If you wish to stop emails from a specific thread, you can click the 'unfollow' button on a given thread. But note that by clicking this button, you will not see the thread in your tracker anymore. So if you want to see the thread in your tracker, but not receive emails, you will have to wait until the above issue is acted upon by the Drupal Association. At the moment, it's all-or-nothing; tracker and email, or no tracker and no email.

Thanks for the Association for moving forward on this issue, as it's been needed for about a decade now.

Excellent. Finally!

as it's been needed for about a decade now.

I was going to give you a thumbs-up or a star or something for that comment, but, you know...

but, you know...

Yeah, that would require software from the 2010s, rather than the 2000s.

Now now... don't get greedy. After all, we did just get email notifications as a side effect of enabling it for documentation, lol. Give 'em a decade or so for up/down voting (only slightly sarcastic :-()

You can now enable/disable email notifications for forum (and other) posts in the profile->notifications tab of your account page. Thank you to the team for adding this as well.

I'm really looking for some similar function at Drupal 8. Is there a Workaround available?

Best regards,
Stephan

@stephan
Did you find a solution for this?

(I am working with the alpha3 rules version now but is is really still to buggy to implement these kind of interactions)

Hi, is this function available to advanced forum modul or just to the drupal.org site? I would love to use it in a Drupal 7 installation.

Jaypan’s picture

It's custom on Drupal.org.
You should post in the Post Installation section of the forum for a solution.

We use the https://www.drupal.org/project/message_follow module. This should work for any content type, forum, advanced forum, or anything else.

Oh, I stand corrected! Except your link doesn't work Drumm.

I am looking for help in setting up such that the emails have their links formatted correctly.

Currently when email is received from the forum post - it displays the links but they are only plain text. You can not click on them. This problem appears only on mobile devices, it works OK on desktops.

Can anyone tell me where to start or what changes are needed. I use Responsive Green Theme.

Thanks.

Turning URLs into links in plaintext emails is something the email client does, it's not something that can be forced on the sending end.

The only way around this is to set up your system to use HTML email, and re-write your emails with <a> tags around the URLs.
