Hello! I am a recruiter and we have a client with a consulting gig starting in Feb. for onsite architecture level Drupal coder. I was wondering if anyone might suggest to me the range of rates to expect, on a corp to corp basis? Gig is onsite 40 hours 6 months in Michigan.

It really depends on skill levels required, pool of potential candidates, and specific location.

Considering the gig is for a fixed term, you're going to have to pay more than if you were hiring a permanent employee.

I'd expect to pay somewhere between USD$30,000 - USD$70,000, depending on the skill level of the developer. A skilled developer will be able to do twice as much if not more, than an unskilled developer in the same period of time.

Jay's rates (30 - 70 / hour) are a bit low, but otherwise I agree. Add 10 to 15 to the low end for someone who doesn't have to be trained, and 10 to 100 to the upper end depending on area.

Best,
Michael

My rates were for the full job, not per hour.

Though I haven't calculated backwards from my numbers to an hourly rate, so if it works out to the numbers you gave, apologies.

Hi Jay,

No problems.

Rule of thumb: 1 year full time = 50 weeks x 40 hours = 2,000 hours

And contract spots are always done per hour (or the contractor gets screwed).

And I guess I should also mention that 'good' contractors generally avoid headhunters like the OP as a headhunter shop takes 40% to 60% of the gross client bill rate. If you're a client, you're much better off tracking down your own consultant.

Best,
Michael

Full disclosure:
I use to own a headhunter shop, largest client was MasterCard International.
