After installing the modul (but i dont still remember if setting up a new rule was necessary) i get following error message in the status report:

Mismatched entity and/or field definitions
The following changes were detected in the entity type and field definitions.
Content

Delete the URL-Alias field.

Taxonomy term

Delete the URL-Alias field.

But despite this it seems to work well.

I had the same problem.
Of course running drush entity-updates solves the problem.
But I don't understand why this was necessary the first place.

Is this harmless to do?

Yes, its completely harmless since it is custom storage anyway.

https://github.com/md-systems/pathauto/issues/124 will have to take care of this.
