I'm seeing the following issue

My site has 2 languages DE & EN
Node Default Language DE

when my DE Field has a value say "Hallo, ich bin es" translated to EN the value is "Hello, it's me" - it works perfectly
but if I want my EN field to be empty - it shows the default value "Hallo, ich bin es"

any help appreciated
