I have a reviewing system and would like to include rate as part of the review, meaning the target of the rating should be the parent node, not the review itself.

is there a way to have the rate widget target the parent node, referenced through entity reference?

Same here, when you have a parent node that is a product. All comments that are opinions about the product with a fivestar for each comment. How can you get the stats for all comments to display in the parent product node ?

always nice to see how questions by sitebuilders about basic functionality always meet the wall of silence :-(
many Drupal modules are built with a simplistic use case that is far from practical use.
