I get this error when trying to activate the calendar module and it crashes my whole site on "localhost". Only fix is to delete the module from www/drupal-6.2/sites/all/modules directory. Reproduced several times with fresh download of module.

Seems to be the same failure and is fixed in 6.x-2.0-dev with date 2008-May-25.

I'm sorry, when I went back, I downloaded the -beta version and not the -dev. Will get the -dev and try. Sorry to be such a noob.
