Visibility of entity reference in block field (view) depends on visibility original field on that content type

There's this content type that has the Entity Reference field "wood", by which the user can assign a type of wood to a node.

I'd like to output the label and its value for this field in a custom Views block. This Views block is being used as a block field provided by Display Suite.

However, the value of this field is not being displayed in that block field, it seems like it's being excluded. But when I enable its original field as well in the display settings of that content type, it shows up fine in the block field as well (so it shows 2 identical values now: the text field and the block field).

It seems that the display of a field value through a view (displayed with a block field) depends on the display settings of the original field itself.

Is there a way I can display the value of node field through a view (displayed with a block field) without the original field being enabled in the display settings of the content type please?
