Describe the problem you have found and a link to the page with a problem:

The module search feature functionality on Drupal.org has diminished significantly over the years. It used to be extremely accurate where the user only had to enter the subject they intend to find either for a module or theme. Now there are several options and the search form is unnecessarily nested among several sub-categories that are almost useless in actually helping with the search in my experience. The search form should be prominent and easy to find.

That brings me to the core issue. The search function is almost worthless for the person who does not understand your intent for selection of the various sub-categories. I am a Drupal user/admin/developer since Drupal 6 but, I am still among those users who cant figure out what the heck the search subcategories do. It is also maddening and confusing to have to know all the parameters of what you are searching for before you search for it when I can go to Google, enter only the name of the item I am searching for and find it faster than on your own site.

As an example, I recently pulled down Drupal 8 and began the task of looking for Modules to install ( I am on a closed site where the automated features in your modules section will not work for me). I entered Drush in the subject both with and without quotes. In both circumstances, your search returned items that had nothing to do with what I asked for. As a matter of fact, two or three levels (pages) down, I still have not found what I was looking for. However, I went to google and on the first hit I was linked to a page in your website. NOT GOOD!

Title: Module and Themes Search Functionality » Improve site search results for "Drush"
Category: Bug report » Task
Status: Active » Postponed (maintainer needs more info)

We put some time into improving search on Drupal.org, particularly project search, around September 2015 #658048: Users should get an expected result when using search

Search is a hard problem, and there will always be room to improve. What we need to help do that is specific examples.

The one example I can pick out here is “Drush,” but Drush itself is not a module and not hosted on Drupal.org, it is at http://www.drush.org. https://www.drupal.org/search/site/drush looks like it could use improvement. I don’t see a result explaining the basics of what Drush is and pointing to the Drush site for more information. That page needs to be found, or created, before we can look into improving its ranking in those search results.

Any other specific examples should go to #1917532: Module search not configured properly on drupal.org website and related issues.
