Source for modal display

I'm trying to access a stripped down modal view of the field collection like so:
/docroot/field-collection/field-topic/3
Been trying some of the modal module, and some formatting along these lines:
/docroot/field-collection/field-topic/3?modal=1&width=500&height=500

Was wondering if there is an easy path to triggering the stripped down fields display without displaying the rest of the site temperature
