In the past, we had a valid Drupal8 method of attaching a css file

see the ReservationController

Core has tightened up it approach ... and now css must be in a library.

I have a fix and will post and commit soon.

Fixed.... now that Drupal 8.0.0. is out -- I am going to get this module back to health.
This is going to be the first of many little fixes :)
