Hi,

Is any data collected and sent back to Drupal during (or after) a new installation of Drupal 8 (and/or upgrade)?

Is this done automatically, without getting explicit consent (an opt-in process)?

Is there a way to opt-out of any data collection before it happens?

Many thanks,

Chris.

D6 & D7 pinged d.o. to report core installs and module installs. IIRC this is done via the update status module. I'd venture that D8 does the same/similar thing.

Does nobody have an answer?

Basically what I'm asking is if Drupal phones home with details of the installation (like server type/version, PHP version, Database type and version, IP address, Drupal version, etc.).

Also under which circumstances it does it.

eg.
Immediately after install
Immediately after update
Whenever there is a check for updates
etc.

I have a client who is concerned about data collection (even anonymous collection) due to the nature of their business, and is currently selecting which technologies to build upon - Static generator, PHP CMS, non-php CMS, etc.

Drupal is one of their options, but before they will commit they need to be sure that any automatic data collection can be disabled. This make it a tricky project as many bits of software do phone home (either core technology platforms or modules installed within it, WordPress does it and so do many of their 3rd party extensions which has ruled them out of the equation).

Any information is appreciated.

Regards,

Chris.
