# Summary

As of November 20, 2015, several users are discussing a D8 port here. Maintainer Dave Reid indicated on November 20, 2015, that this module is eventually intended to be ported to D8.

Google offers numerous options for verifying a site that can be accomplished separately from the Site Verification or other modules. For example:

  • Use Google Tag Manager (recommended) to paste the tracking code snippet into its own file, then include it in your page header.
  • Add a meta tag to your home page.
  • Upload an HTML file with the name you specify to your server.
  • Verify via your domain name provider.
  • Add the Google Analytics code you use to track your site.

Visit Google Analytics Help for further explanation. The smaller search providers like Bing/Yahoo (combined as of 2015), offer a similar variety of options that will allow site verification without the use of a D8 module for early D8 adopters.

WTF, why did you mark this as won't fix?

Thank you for your input, Dave Reid. I have adjusted the summary based on your indication that this module is intended to be updated for D8. To answer your question, I previously changed the status based on assumptions from several factors, as follows:

  • You are seeking a new maintainer for the project.
  • No 8.x dev has been posted on the project page as of the official D8 launch on November 19, 2015, and since this was a popular module for D6 and D7, D8 adopters are interested in the current status, so I updated the summary to the best of my ability and appreciate your additional input.
  • Ongoing changes in how Google and Bing/Yahoo (now combined) are allowing sites to be verified make it fairly easy to accomplish this outside of a module, though of course a module would be wonderful were it available for D8.
  • Discussion of a D8 port is current as of November 2015 (see additional information in summary), but no one has currently committed to offering a release.
