I'm building a new site for our church in 7x-2.1, about 3/4 complete. Then the 'security update available' message shows up so I get 7.x-2.2 and go through the usual upgrade steps.
After getting all the new code in place I get: "Warning: require_once(/home/xxxx/xxx/profiles/openchurch/modules/contrib/file_entity/plugins/entity/file.inc): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in ctools_plugin_load_includes() (line 477 of /home/xxx/xxx/profiles/openchurch/modules/contrib/ctools/includes/plugins.inc)." Have restored to backup, works fine, upload new code, get error.
In the 7.x-2.2 distribution the profiles/openchurch/modules/contrib/file_entity/plugins/entity/file.inc is not included while it is in the 7.x-2.1 distribution. There are two directories missing from the OpenChurch 7.x-2.2 file_entity plugins directory: entity and tasks.
Added the file and two directories, update.php begin to run, then got: Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ... profiles/openchurch/modules/contrib/ctools/plugins/content_types/comment/comment_created.inc. Added that file and then got:
Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ... profiles/openchurch/modules/contrib/metatag/plugins/content_types/node_form_metatags.inc. The entire metatag plugins directory is missing from the distribution.
Looks like we need to rebuild the 7.x-2.2 distribution.

It's not going to work as expected. Instead you need to replace all of your files/folders except for your sites folder. This is one of the unfortunate limitations of install profiles.
