The Entity Reference module has been deprecated. It seems we're still using that in at least ProcessorTestBase and RenderedItemTest, so we should remove it there.
Probably, the best course of action for testing a patch would be to locally remove the entity_reference module folder altogether and then trying to run the Search API tests.
