From Weblinks to page nodetype

Hi,
I have used weblinks nodes in D6 and thinking of moving to link module to D7, also because Link is already preparing for D8, while weblinks has just almost finished D7 migration, I do not know whether there will be a D8 version.

Would it be possible with this module to convert my nodetype from weblinks to say article, so I can use the link-field with a article nodetype?
