EPS files not supported by the image module

I tried to add eps as an extension type and it says it added it. It accepts it without error but when you upload a file with an eps extension it says only png, gif,jpg, jpeg allowed, so why wasn't I warned when I add eps as an extension if it is going to ignore it. I had to go read the code to figure that that was what it was doing.
