8.x-4.0-alpha1 released. Core functionality is working but some features still need improving and a number of submodules are not yet functional.

Thank you, it's great to have someone working on Ubercart for Drupal 8.
Has anybody already installed a reliable version of his Drupal 8 Ubercart shop?
Please send links to show your shop and post information.

guntervs’s picture

MakeOnlineShop, I'm using UC features in a project. I wouldn't recommend it for large/complex shops at this moment. It's more a dev release instead of alpha.

Where can I find more information about the D8 roadmap?
Is there a list of specific issues that need to be resolved before a beta is released?
Thanks!

jeromewiley’s picture

Subscribe (interested in D8 availability of beta or RC version.)

GUE-Andreas’s picture

Is there a plan for the Drupal 8 version to be able to import orders, products, settings etc from Ubercart for Drupal 6? Or would I simply have to write a porting script myself, once this Drupal 8 version is ready for production sites?

Thanks!

Anonymous’s picture

I wonder if there is a full stable Ubercart release soon since I would like to use it with Drupal 8.

TR’s picture

@GUE-Andreas: There is currently no Migrate path for D6 -> D8. There IS a well-tested upgrade path from D6 -> D7, but core Drupal has removed that ability for going to D8. That and the fact that there is little chance you will be able to migrate the rest of your site directly to D8 without writing some code, and the Migrate code is currently "experimental" and poorly documented.

I strongly suggest you move to D7 first rather than try to jump directly to D8.

@drupalinthailand: Ubercart for D8 has existed in working form for two years. Your comments are insulting to the people like me who have VOLUNTEERED literally thousands of hours to this project. If you don't have anything constructive to say then please go away.

@203: "Stable" is not a well-defined term in Drupal.

Ubercart for D8 is currently marked as an alpha release for one reason and one reason only - there are some features missing in the D8 release that were present in previous releases. The codebase itself is mature and stable (i.e. not changing much) and tested, and if you don't need those missing features it is perfectly fine to use on a production site. We're a bit constrained because one of those missing features relies on the Rules module, which doesn't have a full D8 port yet.

I'm closing this issue because this project tracker was really only meant for the early D8 days, and those have passed. Neither I nor longwave are monitoring this issue but the remaining work IS being addressed in the Ubercart issue queue.

If you have specific questions about Ubercart in D8 you may ask them in the issue queue. Or perhaps you can contribute to finishing those missing pieces, also by participating in the issue queue.

According to the project information this issue should be: Needs review
When there is a Stable, it can be closed as Fixed.

Participation in this issue queue is voluntary. Because neither I nor longwave monitor or participate in this issue (we are the two Ubercart maintainers, BTW, in case you missed that fact), this thread doesn't and won't contain current or useful information on the status of Ubercart. All it serves is to provide a place for mis-information and dis-information, which fails to serve the needs of Drupal users and which makes my life harder. We already have a place for Ubercart status, and that's the Ubercart issue queue. We don't need a second place.

If YOU want to open a thread for Ubercart project status, and if YOU want to keep it up-to-date and complete, then go ahead and do that, but I don't see that you or anyone else has contributed answers here. Leaving this open gives the impression that answers are not being provided (false, they're being provided in the Ubercart issue queue) and that no progress is being made on Ubercart (also false). Closing the issue and redirecting users to the Ubercart issue queue results in better communication of information and makes better use of my limited volunteer time.

It is definitely not me who is missing out facts! As volunteer and consumer of this projects information I correct misleading information. It is providing very useful information.
Indeed your actions here are obstructing and prevent useful information. It is evident you don't want to look beyond your own project.

Thank you for letting us know how you feel about it. As far as ubercart is concerned, I have currently no desire for that module. When the time comes, hope to remember this and look for alternatives!

Issue summary: View changes

I've updated the issue summary to reflect what TR said in #13. I'm a bit shocked of the harassing comments here. Please calm down. A project of this size just takes a lot of effort and energy to maintain. We don't need comments to slash Ubercart and discourage its maintainers of continuing supporting it.

@TR
You say in #13 that some features are missing. Maybe you can use this issue to list these? This issue could be used for people who want to follow the development status of D8 Ubercart.
Thanks for all your efforts and I hope to see Ubercart evolving further!

@mmjvb: Thanks for your compassion and understanding in helping me out while I'm dealing with my critically ill daughter. It sure is good to know that my 10 years contributing to this community is appreciated. You've done a great job of making it more difficult to maintain a project that you yourself have no intention of ever using.

I'm out of this thread. Go ahead and be a dick and reopen it if you must, but further comments will not be answered by the project maintainer. Go to the Ubercart issue queue if you have something constructive to contribute.

There is an alpha release for D8, resetting to the special status for this issue queue, see https://www.drupal.org/project/contrib_tracker#statuses

Even if this issue were deleted, Ubercart is a popular enough module, I expect a potentially less-accurate replacement would be opened to replace it. And yes, issues in this project will always lag behind the project’s real status.

mmjvb - this issue queue’s behavior is quite opaque. Please link to what the statuses do when correcting them.

Anyone looking for the current status of Ubercart (or any other project) - be sure to also thoroughly look through the project’s page on Drupal.org and issues.

@TR: Please do not be discouraged by mmjvb. If you look at his post history, he appears to be harassing a ton of module maintainers all in the name of regulation. Reference: https://www.drupal.org/node/2611306#comment-12069648. Thank you so much for your work over the years!

@drupalinthailand: That was by far the most random comment I've ever read on this site. I understand that everyone has bad days, so I will not take it personally. I suggest taking a few moments to gather your thoughts before making such an outburst in the future.

@drumm Please remove #22/#24, consider them off topic!

The Drupal Community Working Group has received multiple incident reports about this thread. We would ask all participants to abide by the Drupal Code of Conduct (https://www.drupal.org/dcoc) when engaging with others, in particular the following:

Be respectful.
The Drupal community and its members treat one another with respect. Everyone can make a valuable contribution to Drupal. We may not always agree, but disagreement is no excuse for poor behavior and poor manners. We might all experience some frustration now and then, but we cannot allow that frustration to turn into a personal attack. It's important to remember that a community where people feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one. We expect members of the Drupal community to be respectful when dealing with other contributors as well as with people outside the Drupal project and with users of Drupal.

We expect individuals to first try to resolve conflicts between themselves in a constructive manner, asking for help when needed, in accordance with our established conflict resolution policy and process (https://www.drupal.org/conflict-resolution) to resolve their dispute

The CWG meets weekly and will review this issue at our next regular meeting, but in the meantime, we ask for participants to be considerate, respectful and collaborative when engaging with each other.

Re #2874291: "This module has been included with Drupal 8 core" - I think “Closed (works as designed)” is an okay status for this issue. This would remove the message from the project page.

“Closed (outdated)” would be okay too, also removing the message.

Since there is an alpha release, the message

This module has a pre-release version for Drupal 8. To find out more, follow this issue or download below.

is indeed redundant and directing people to this issue is not helpful. (We might want to remove that message completely, but that’s a separate issue.)

The only downside is contrib_tracker loses a bit of accuracy. I hope people aren’t starting looking at a D8 project by looking at contrib_tracker, anyway. And any stats pulled only from contrib_tracker data probably aren’t completely accurate anyway.

mmjvb’s picture

You might want to reconsider and place the link to the issue under the Development section. Suspect that people would only require the message when no work on D8 has been done yet.

Definitely a different issue, but for which project?

Same thing goes for the Status values. A feature request to be able to customize the labels for a project would be nice: Not started, Started, alpha or beta, release candidate, completed would be much more meaningful in my opinion. Again which project?

@hestened Please also remove those from NWOM for the very same reason!

dddave’s picture

@mmjvb
I have stepped into some of you other issues already. Please see my remarks there. Please stop your turf wars. If you feel the need to go on, please bring it to the CWG but don't continue to bring this into various issues here.

I do not understand English well, but did I understand that the project is more unbearable?

TXRobd’s picture

Curious why development has stopped for this? We are a large scale E-Commerce company that are trying to port over to Drupal 8. The problem we have is using auth.net as our gateway and there is no support for it other then API's. Which delays our project longer then it would take to install Drupal Commerce. But would rather use UC..

bunthorne’s picture

What is blocking Ubercart from beta, RC, and Prod status for 8.x? Are those issues identified so that we can help support this module?
