Any volunteer for a patch for that new feature? Francewhoa would be happy to contribute testing patch, quality assurance, documentation, and agile project management services if needed.

User Story / Motivation / Challenge

As a ERPAL user I would like to be able to not send email notification when creating or updating some content so that subscribers receive only email notifications that are of interest to them

Above images are mockups to clarify to suggested resolution

Assumptions / Proposed resolution

  • Assumes when users are doing mass-updates they do not want to flood subscriber(s) with minor updates that are not of interest to them.
  • Assumes for example
    1. Using ERPAL the user John create a new ticket
    2. During the following 4 hours the same user John post 9 updates to that same ticket. Most of his updates are minors and not of interest to subscriber(s). For example:
      1. for 8 of those updates John checked the box title "Do not send notifications for this update". As a result subscriber(s) inbox is spare. They are so happy they can barely contain themselves filled with joy that their inbox is spared, LOL ;)
      2. for 1 of those minor updates John do not checked the box title "Do not send notifications for this update". As a result subscriber(s) receive one email notification. They love it because that one notification is of interest to them.
  • Assumes that by default the box titled "Do not send notifications for this update" is not check. But ERPAL user could change that default setting to their liking.
  • Assumes this feature scales: By "scales" we mean that feature is very useful on large scale projects involving multiple teams. For example if 5 peoples make 10 mass-minor-updates each during the same day. And during the same period of time they redo the same for 3 different projects. Then that result in each subscriber receiving a total of ~150 email notifications. Oh Oh :( Feels like spam to them. Because most of those minor email notifications are not all of interest to them. But if the user checked the box titled "Do not send notifications for this update" that would result in subscriber(s) receiving a total of only ~5 updates of interest. That's more like it :)

Notes

  • Maybe some of the OA2 open source code could be recycled for ERPAL? It uses the Message Stack which is also use by ERPAL.
  • Similar feature with Redmine Silencer plug-in. Maybe some of that open source code could also be recycled for ERPAL?
