Problem/Motivation

It appears that Field Group does not work on a custom Display Suite Layout. This may or may not be related to #2557877: Fields are not grouped when render element key is not elements since I am using the render element content. Although the work around does not seem to work with Display Suite.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I've tried using it without setting a layout with DS and it works great, but as soon as I select a layout (one column or reset), the grouping element never gets applied. It's unfortunate because the combination of the wrapping element (and the ability to add classes) paired with the ability to customize markup on fields (using DS Extras) is really powerful.

Just a note that field_group and DS maintainers potentially are in the same building on friday/saturday. So maybe this is all solved by the end of the weekend.

Well that would be pretty cool! I wish I knew more about how to work on it, but at the very least am happy to review & test! This is a pretty important piece of the puzzle for me with D8.
