Navigation menu in Book core module

I am trying to use the Book core module but cannot get the previous-next-up links to display in a book.
I need something like what the Drupal site uses for documentation.
Can display the navigation menu in a block but not the links nor a table of contents for the book.
I also installed the Book helper module to no avail.
Please help.
