Both Views and Panels lacks "view mode" setting for "rendered taxonomy term" formatter.
The reason - unavailability of settings_form formatter hook.

I can't figure out how to include the stuff from includes/ds.field_ui.inc from Views and Panels.

Can't we move this function out from ds.field_ui.inc and to ds.module itself so that it is unconditionally available?

Current version of the module 7.x-2.14 still has this issue.
