Hi All
I am trying to embed SWF video files into the content of my web pages. The embed code that I am using works fine in IE, and of course in Macs, but Firefox renders very poorly, breaking the page layout.
I'm sorry to have to bother, but I am at the point where I don't have any idea what to do from here.
The details:
I am using a small program called V2F to convert video files from wmv or mov or avi to SWF flash files. The program seems to create good code, and has a nice flash video player. I have no complaints with the program or its code.
But Firefox hates it. The page transforms from 2 columns with Navigation on the left, text aligned to the left, and about 900 px wide fixed width, into a page with one column of centered justified text, no limit to the width, with the navigation block shoved down to the bottom somewhere.
I'm using the Aberdeen theme. Fixed width. I think its Drupal 5.2
The embed code that it generates looks like this. Here is the code exactly as pasted to this web page: http://newideas.net/adhd/research/structural-neurology-adhd/brain-circui...
(which is a rarely visited page on my site)
1. It doesn't seem to be a "size" issue, as the video is only 350 px wide. And because I created and placed an image of the same size onto another page, and it renders just fine;
2. 1. I removed all of the code related to
and just left code for . It rendered fine in both FIREFOX and IE. It plays fine in both browsers too. So, it seems to me that IE, at least IE 7, can render both and/or tags and code, but firefox can only render code, and the code makes firefox crazy. And I'm running FireFox 2.0.0.6, so not the latest version but pretty up to date. So, is there a little code snippit that will tell firefox to ignore the tag and code, and only read the tag and code? Or, should I just use the tag and code, as it seems that it would work well in both IE7 and Firefox 2.0, but will that work for older versions of IE? 3. When I removed all of the code and left all of the code. It was ugly in firefox, just like when both codes are present but without the video at all. Text is centered. Navigation is shoved to the bottom of the page. Ugly. In IE it still renders fine, and everything looks and plays great. (I'm starting to like IE more and more). 4. When I put ALL of the code back in, both code and code, in firefox it renders poorly again but at least the video is there. And it still looks great in IE. I have been it contact with the customer support of the software company, and they cannot find any problems with their code (nor can I) and their last comment was " After reviewing the code and the page it appears that it is the code within the page design that causes this problem. Did you make the page or a web designer? We have tested the code and it will not break existing code to cause this problem. The issue appears to be within the page design." So, does anyone know a simple fix? Again: Drupal 5.2 with Aberdeen fixed width. Please see the following: My website is http://newideas.net and all of the pages are formatted the same with the Aberdeen fixed theme The page with the embedded video at http://newideas.net/adhd/research/structural-neurology-adhd/brain-circui... Again, the problem is only with FireFox browser. Thanks to anyone who can help with this. Doug Cowan

<div> tags worked!
As embarrassed as I am to comment on my own post, this just might help someone in the future.
What FireFox needed was for me to surround the
+ codes withIt works!
Dude, thank you! I had same headache with my flash (inserting swf and youtube movie in TinyMCE). So I just wrapped code of flash with
. So it works for me fine! Thanks!
