In "filter criterion: field_X: LatLong Pair (indexed)", is the "automatic source" (ex: from current user's geofield) missing, or am i missing something? If it is missing, is it by design or is it a pending feature request?

views search page with search index having geofield latlong.

It's now a pending feature request, I guess – thanks for the suggestion!
It would probably be implemented as a "contextual filter", though – that's what they are for.
Also, at least I don't have the time in the foreseeable future, so if you really want this feature you'll have to find someone to work on it.
