When I click on an image with an inline colorbox link that open the original img, the tinynav menu duplicates itself.

have you tried dev and is colorbox loading an AJAX call?

I had the same issue with 7.x-1.3 when loading pages in a view with ajax (module views_show_more). The menu I am assigning is a taxonomy menu block. Using the dev release fixed this problem.

Unfortunately with dev the "active" class is not assigned anymore and the select is showing the last item of my menu as selected wherever I navigate.

Any plans for a new release?

I'd accept people to take over the project, we don't use it actively on any sites anymore
