Checking git and it's tagged correctly (yellow boxes) so I'm not sure what the issue could be

Could be it, although haven't seen an issue with any other module as of yet.

running drush ups and I get this when I have 2.10 installed

Yes, looks like it's working now.

$ drush dl advagg --select

Choose one of the available releases for advagg:
