I have tried to configure Google Analytics Counter which relies on this module but S=since April 20th Google no longer supports oAuth 1.0

I have this same issue. I wonder whether this should be moved to the issue queue of that module, though. There is an issue about OAuth 2 support, which basically says that is much easier said then done. https://www.drupal.org/node/795994. This also means (I think) that the GA Counter module is basically useless, in its current form.
