Has anyone hosted with interserver.net ? They are listed on this page for VPS providers https://www.drupal.org/hosting/vps . There price is great, but that scares me a little. I’m essentially looking for a great price for hosting with a dedicated IP.

The first question is to ask yourself if VPS or Shared Hosting is a better fit for you.

You'd want a VPS if: (a) you want to install software on the server that is likely not to be found on a shared hosting provider's server, (b) you want to do things like send large volumes of email, that a shared provider may set too stringent limits on. You'd want shared if: You don't want to be managing (and securing and updating) your own server, simply administering your own site.

Sometimes people say that a VPS gives you more resources. That can be true - but there are good and bad shared providers, just as there are good and bad VPS providers. A well-resourced shared hosting plan would outperform an overloaded VPS node any day. You also have to bear in mind that if a VPS comes with 1 GB of RAM, that RAM also has to power any control panel you use, the MySQL server, the web server, and so on - before you start to get the memory your pages need to load. A shared server comes with those services as a given.

The price point they're advertising on here ($6 per month for 1 GB of RAM and 25 GB of disk space) is a price point where I've seen one or two great VPS providers. But they're all unmanaged ones - meaning they deliver you the virtual server, pre-installing some things on it, and then you're on your own. A good managed provider would start at $35-$40 for those kind of specs.

I just tried them moving one of my small sites onto their $5 a month shared hosting plan.

I can not comment on the VPS plan. But most hosting companies are only as good as their support system is.

Had a billing issue, which was rightly reverted by their customer support, on opening a ticket. Here is what was with a couple of days of experience.

* 9h for first response on ticket, (as well as resolution). I wouldn't complain for the 5$ I am paying. Probably the turnaround times are better for higher VPS plans.
* The chat support is crap. Waited for a couple of times on the queue only to be disconnected. Was lucky enough to make it once although the pop-up never made any beep, so missed noticing it until a few minutes after the queue was cleared - By when the support agent had disconnected. They could probably have nothing there, instead of a broken chat system.

I am yet to check if they would allow Drush or Drupal Console on their shared hosting. (I have Drush working with my hostgator shared hosting). Although this might not be something that affects you since you were considering a VPS.

Overall, looks nice, and I might probably move the bunch of small sites I have on a similar hostgator account to this one. Although I would try them a couple of months before I move the rest of my stuff.
