Currently the only role assignable permission is 'Add classes to node fields' - I would like to see the ability limit the ability to add / edit / delete node fields.

For example, as an administrator I want to see the Node Fields tab in the node add / edit form, but I don't want my content editors to see this - I only need this role to be able to amend the node field values in the main node add / edit form.

I agree. I have been looking for a way to do this for a while. The module works perfectly but if we could add that extra layer of permissions (to allow editing but not creating for certain roles) that would put it over the top.

Anyone know of a way to do this?

Sorry, we did not answer for a long time, there are more priority tasks.
Thank you very much for your recommendations. I have made adjustments to this module that solve your problem.
Now you can define the role which will be available to add/edit/delete extra fields to node.
Updates will be in the next release.
