Hello

I am considering building a subscription based site in Drupal (v7) and would like to get some expert advice before starting to look into the various available modules to get it done.

The site is for a monthly subscription site where members would pay using paypal in order to access site content (the content type will be videos)

My main doubt is - would I need to set up a full fledged ecommerce site for this, or are there any paypal/subscription modules that will make my life easier?

I know that using drupal commerce could be an option but I feel it would be too heavy for this site. I would rather only have a simpler setup with just a subscription and paypal payment module. I dont really need any other ecommerce features for this.

Your advice is greatly appreciated!!

You can use either Drupal commerce or Ubercart, and neither is too heavy for what they want, as what you want is a store, and both of these modules offer solutions for paid membership sites.

I believe that you are looking to creating without using either ubercart or drupal commerce.

But its better to use drupal commerce. None of this modules are heavy for your website.

My strong opinion to use drupal commerce and Configure it properly for your usage.

Ok

I got the project and will start following your advice to use commerce.

I had seen commerce that it has a bunch of startup profiles. Would you suggest to start from there or rather install drupal from scratch and install the commerce modules manually.

Hopefully the integration with paypal payments will not be an issue??
