i am trying to make a teaser block from the most recent news articles but i have not being able to get much help or information on the subject. If you know how to can you kindly let me know what are the steps to follow.

If you are working with nodes, teasers are part of Drupal core.

Need more information to understand where you are getting hung up.

Hey Jaypan
thanks for your reply, I work with a couple of writers/columnists and basically the idea is to create a teaser block displaying maybe the first paragraph of one of the articles.
I created a new taxonomy term called "columnist" where I could select the name of the columnist that I would like the teaser to get the information from but other than that I don't know how to start or where to go, also if the article has a picture it will be nice to come out in the preview teaser block too.
I am using drupal 6.
any help will be truly appreciated.

In Drupal 7, you can create teaser by follow of below steps:

click Administer > Structure > Content types.
click the "Manage display" link for the content type you wish to edit
click "Custom Display Settings" to drop down its settings
make sure "Teaser" is enabled. Save the content type if you had to make a change.
you should see a "Teaser" sub-tab. Click it.
make sure the Format is set to "Summary or trimmed".
click the gear widget on the right side of the settings
set the trim length and click "Update"
click the "Save" button
