Creating a sub-theme locally?

Hi All

Is it possible to create a sub-theme locally?

I tried to create one manually (Adaptivetheme) but it does not appear in "appearance" and i also tried using drush but no joy there either. I am just learning the ropes with Drupal so am practicing locally for the moment and will move to server when i have a hang of things.

yes it is. not seeing the subtheme in administer -> themes could occur for a few different reasons

malformed .info file (incorrect naming/syntax)
permissions issue on the folder or the .info file within the folder.

I have worked it out now! I had placed my folder in the wrong theme folder which is easily done seeing how many different theme folders there are but now all fine and can start creating my own sub-theme. Thanks

There are only two. One for core themes at the root level and one for contrib/custom themes at sites/all/themes. If you have more than 2 theme folders then these is something else going on.
