Hi,

You have a site built with Drupal 6 or 7, do you plan to migrate to Drupal 8 ?

What is the best time to begin development of a site on Drupal 8 (including an intranet with management tools) ?

Thank you

migration of already existing sites will begin as soon as Drupal 8.x is released as stable and determinations are made on modules that are in use.

D8 will be the first version considered for new new sites.

I likely won't start using Drupal 8 until it's been out for a year or so. I waited that long with Drupal 7. The problem is that even after D8 is released, there will not be so many modules, and there won't be so much documentation on how to do things, which means development will be a lot of trial and error. From a business perspective, this means I am either billing my clients for the time it takes us to figure things out, or we don't bill them and we take a hit on our income.

I will likely migrate D6 sites to D7, if there is an immediate necessity, otherwise I'll wait until I am comfortable working with D8, and migrate them to D8.

At our end, we must not be in a rush to migrate to the newest version, as also after the release of the stable version, there are many things that remain there and even the developers community for the newest version is not that strong, So its better to wait for sometime before migration to the newest stable release.

Sadly, we will continue with D6 or move to Symfony. So much custom code to upgrade that probably is not worth the effort (as we don't use all the last drupal core adds as cck, panels, views, and whatsoever...).

No actual plan for D8 yet, wait and see if it is actually faster and less complex to use. Got no stomach to relearn complex stuff for another year again.

if you can use drupal why use others?

Actually, we have a powerful Drupal 6 website, with many custom codes. We started to think on migration to D8 early september 2014.
The scheduled date to "go live" was september 2015. But after a few month we are always on beta and many modules as Commerce/Ubercart/Redhen are not started or completed.

To date, we work slowly with many tests and errors, because some documentations become obslete too fast vs beta's updates.

I think we started our migration project too early, but we take time to discover Drupal 8 and we can test more codes.

It's very exciting to look core with magnifying glass and create a first module to create contents, fields and taxonomies.

beware... the ginormous architectural changes of d8 will likely cause a rather large lag for contrib. I fear it will make the d6->d7 lag look like a walk in the park. I also fear some contrib maintainers just won't bother or jump over to back drop.
