I use WYSIWYG, WYSIWYG filter, and either Tiny MCE or CKEditor for sites.

These tools I have found are necessity for "full html" and "filtered html" application on sites.

Working with the WYSIWYG filter is difficult to learn to start, but once you get a good configuration you can use it over and over. THe problem is getting a "good configuration".

It would help if Drupal included a complete WYSIWYG editor with all of these features in the core?

a quick google search would have returned many discussions on this issue and the path forward for Drupal 8.

An editor won't be included in core for D7. Contrib is the only method for deploying an editor. Ckeditor is included in core in D8.
