Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
klausi tweeted about this in December (https://twitter.com/_klausi_/status/540212125822910464), and I've been thinking about it for a while. I'd like to be a Views comaintainer, and I have the bandwidth to do it now. As I understand, new Views features aren't really in the cards (so that D8 core and D7 contrib can stay in sync), but it looks like there are quite a few bug fixes that can be committed (and issues opened for D8, as well).
What do you think?

cweagansAs an aside, I'd also be open to helping with ctools. Not sure if I should open an issue there or not, though, because the project page doesn't say "Seeking comaintainers"

klausiGreat, I think you can start by going through the RTBC queue and rigorously testing the patches for backwards compatibility. If they pass your check maybe tag them with "cweagans approved" or similar?

Committing the stuff is not the thing which is time consuming, but its rather the possibility to trust the people's RTBCs.
Ideally something like 'cweagans approved' would be indeed great.
So what about getting obvious quickfixes in and move them to Drupal 8, if needed?
Well, as long they are just incremental improvements in some special handler, I think its not a big deal, but keep in mind that solving things in Drupal 8,
might require total different solutions, especially now that #2342045: Standard views base fields need to use same rendering as Field UI fields, for formatting, access checking, and translation consistency is in.
In general we should avoid in any way to break existing sites.
That would be super great!
// No offend @colan if you read this ...
You know, just the other day @colan seemed really open in IRC, but meh, one commit happened, that's it.
Just gave you the needed rights.

cweagansCool! I start going through the queue ASAP (I'm on vacation Saturday-Tuesday). @dawehner, just to make sure we're on the same page, you want me to commit obvious stuff, open issues against D8 as necessary, and re-review more substantial RTBC patches, right?
dawehnerGood to know.
That would be great!
