Breadcrumbs don't appear

Hi,
I am trying to add breadcrumbs to the Recruiter distro.I tried both with Path breadcrumbs and Custom breadcrumbs.Neither worked.
I also added this code

 print $breadcrumb 

to the node.tpl.php and page.tpl.php of the Cloudy theme.
Still no luck.How can I solve this?
