Hello all!

I currently have a niche site that I want to expand into a big authority/advice/news site. Right now I'm running it through WordPress since that's pretty simple to operate and there are a bunch of plugins. I've used some very basic Drupal in the past but thought it was somewhat confusing.

My site (http://bestcamoreviews.com) targets the outdoor segment and is based on my real expierences hunting. I discuss my favorite gear (which are also affiliate links), as well as provide advice. Right now it's a pretty basic site, nothing too wonderful looking.

I want to eventually expand this into a site with more reviews, a better advice section, video tutorials, wild game cooking recipies, reader submitted articles, and a news feed of viral videos. WordPress seems great for the basic layouts but I'm just not sure the capabilities down the road. In light of my plans to eventually expand my site what recommendation would you all make, stay with what I know in WordPress or take the time to invest in learning Drupal and convert my site over? I don't want to hire anyone to build it if I do convert since I prefer to be completely in control of my content and operating my site.

I asked this same question in a wordpress forum but of course most said WP was best over Drupal so that's why I created this account and wanted to ask here too to get the Drupal community's opinion on this.

If anyone could give me their thoughts on this that'd be great!

Thanks,
Josh

If you are already comfortable using Wordpress, then stick to Wordpress. The features you are adding are not that complicated for either platform. Keep it simple.

Ok, in my mind I keep building Drupal up as being better than WP just due to the complexity but if you think I can do the same things I wish to with WP I'd rather stick with what I know. Thanks for the input!

The CMS is only as powerful as the developer behind it. Any dev worth their weight can make Drupal or wordpress pretty much do anything you want. I have worked on both platforms and chose to do exclusively Drupal a couple of years ago because it is more flexible. I also think the collaboration in the Drupal community is much better. There are less competing modules and more collaboration. That being said, the list of features you need above can easily be done in either platform There is nothing hard or unique to what you want to do. If you are comfortable in wordpress, save yourself having to learn a whole new platform.

As per your statement, it is not always that everything that is complex is always better, it basically depends on your skill set, and yes all the things that can be achieved by drupal can also be achieved by the wordpress. So, here it is always better to stick to the CMS which suits you better, as you can explore that deeper with minimum efforts.

So why you consider giving up WordPress and move to Drupal? It is true that Drupal is more powerful and functional than WordPress, but also, it brings more learning curve. In this case, if you are get used to WordPress, then do not change. If you need more features, some WordPress plugins must can meet your needs.
