Attached patch changes docs to reflect reality: It's an entity that is returned. But actually most config entities return nothing. So we could alter the docs of content entity only, but I think it might be worthwhile for some config entities to also validate based on the entity objects - in which case it should work the same way as for content entities. Thus I think it's best to adjust the general docs to return the object if built.

EntityFormInterface::validate() was removed in #2453175: Remove EntityFormInterface::validate() and stop using button-level validation by default in entity forms.

Therefore, closing as outdated. If this is incorrect reopen the issue, by setting the status to 'Active', and add a comment explaining what still needs to be done.
