I run a site with Rooms, Views, Commerce and several other modules that are considered difficult. but I must say that Rules is my nemesis. Of course I read whatever is available, but I cannot even get it started.

I need a rule that fires on the first of each month. That is my 'event'. I have installed Rules Scheduler, but when I want to add a new Rule and am asked on which Event it should react there are no date related events in the list. Am I wrong to expect that there?

I don't think Rules Scheduler gives you a completely straightforward way to do this in the UI. If I'm not mistaken, what you are describing is basically a specicific case of the scenario give in Tutorial 4 for Rules:

Tutorial 4 is for Drupal 6. It Implies that one has successfully made another Rule (which I have not) and it describes not the solution of a problem, but of a multitude of problems. So basically your answer is a sort of RTFM answer were it not that there is no manual.

I just want an explanation of what I am supposed to find at page 1 of the Add a Rule traject. Am I right to expect an option to use dates there or is that the wrong approach? That would give me some insight in the workings of Rules and help me understand and the many explanations here and there.
So: why is there no date option in the list of Events that trigger Rules.
