Hey rspu, have a look at https://www.drupal.org/node/2401829.
I think we should drop support for internet explorer 8. That would make your patch unnecessary. What do you think about this?

Yeah, I agree. I did not see #2401829: Drop internet explorer support for versions lower than IE9 before submitting new issue.
