Drupal indicates that I need to update my WYSIWYG module from 7.x-2.2+46-dev to 7.x-2.2. When I click on the "release notes" link, I find that it was last updated October 2, 2012, two years before I even installed WYSIWYG! And the changes listed are since the 2.1 version.

I went ahead an did the auto-update anyway, expecting it to install version 7.x-2.2+54-dev. But I'm suspicious that it actually switched me to the production release version 2.2. I really think that I want to stick with the dev version (I'm using CKEditor 4).

So, I can install version 7.x-2.2+54-dev manually, no problem. Is that the right thing to do?
And, where can I see a list of changes made since . . . the +46 version, I guess? Or at least the +53 version.

And, do you think the auto-update notification and link could be changed to keep the user in the same family i.e. -dev vs. production release?

If you're on -dev to begin with, you'll need to update manually as the Core updater only goes by the recommended release (in this case the old but stable 7.x-2.2). There is no way for me to fix this other than making new releases and tagging them as recommended AFAIK, and I'm not prepared to do that yet due to lack of time and the current quality of the dev branches. I am still actively working on getting a new stable release out there though.
