There's been a long running issue to refresh our little Blue friend. It seems consensus has descended, and all is quiet. So... how about we see if we can bring that freshness to our default theme?

No, we should wait on resolution of the policy decision before doing this.

Or as suggested by @crowdcg - perhaps it should use the D8 logo instead.

Having the D8 logo as the default in Bartik is an awesome idea!

Just to reiterate and expand on what I said in https://www.drupal.org/node/2057767#comment-9358161

I believe we have a great opportunity with the Drupal 8 release to bring a higher level of awareness to the newest version/next generation by swapping out the Druplicon logo for the D8 logo. By changing the logo this would subtly help market D8 and also help non-technical users differentiate between D8 sites and previous versions.

Regardless of the decision I think that swapping the logo may have an impact on the gradient in the header, which was previously changed in https://www.drupal.org/node/2125621 (see sample screenshot mockups).

Title: Put the new Druplicon (2057767) in Bartik for D8 » Put the D8 logo in Bartik for D8 release

I agree, and have changed the title accordingly.
