I have seen many templates offering the possibility to show in columns and rows the previews of articles nodes, with the "read more" linked to the article.
Well, my question is: how can I instruct Drupal to place nodes in these positions?
Differently from Joomla, Drupal seems not to have a content area configuration manager and the maximum I'm able to do is to place the
fields of a single node inside the columns with Display Suite or Panels.
But this is applied to FIELDS, not to NODES.
What I would appreciate should be a page where many previews of the articles of a content type can stay, for instance, in rows and columns
as many newspapers do (see, for instance, http://www.corriere.it/)
Thanks for attention and good wishes for the forthcoming holidays

So here two approaches

a) Use views and a grid display. It will order them bases on the sort criteria. You can arrange them manually by using either the node queue module or dragable views module.

b) Use the panels module and completely place them manually.
