Just downloaded 7.x-1.0-alpha2 via drush and the messaging_devel.info file is missing the "l" so it is actually messaging_deve.info which means it can't be enabled...

The patch works. Another option for the committer is to run
git mv messaging_devel/messaging_deve.info messaging_devel/messaging_devel.info
Note that messaging_devel still needs work to be ported from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. That would be a separate issue.
