No matter what you specify for weights in the GROUP BY TYPE SETTINGS in search, no sorting is actually done. The resulting groups come out in whatever order the original results were in. I looked into the code and made a fix for this. A patch is enclosed.

Amazingly, this patch is still needed in 7.x-2.14 release of Display Suite ;-)
And it works!
