Hi there,

For years I have used Drupal to manage music distribution to embedded Linux devices. With the addition of a simple module to write to the Linux shell, I had a very powerful tool which still ran well with a couple of million nodes (that was Drupal 6).

I built x86 devices with 7" touchscreens attached that would post logs to the Drupal site and query the database to see if they should update their music. DJs could allocate directories of music to sets of music players and schedule the transfer to start overnight. Since 2007, 500 were installed, with about 300 still in service today.

Now with my new team I have built a decentralised and simplified version to work with a headless Raspberry Pi based version of the product. Although I dream of re-building the management portal in node.js, the ease with which the Drupal version came together is undeniable. You can see a demonstration of it in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHD4AA-dENU

Drupal has for many years made it possible for this part-time hacker to create powerful management interfaces ahead of schedule and way under budget. I thank you all for continuing to produce such a well structured, light weight and powerful tool.

Playnode is selling now on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/933014548/playnode-for-djs-to-lease...
