og2 is great, thanks a lot.

I would like to recreate the D6 appearance on the group content node edit form and suggest it might be a better default for D7. Others may have already done this.

In D6 group related fields were displayed as one fieldset called "Groups".

In the fieldset there is a single select box "Audience" that includes in the list first "My groups" and continuing below those "Other groups". The help for this selection "Show this content in these groups." Multi-select on.

The Group content visibility field can be added as a second item in the fieldset "Groups"

Again the D6 appearance may have merit over the D7 default but that would be a separate issue.

Modules that provide additional group related fields would add to the fieldset "Groups".

1. Simplifying the "Audience" as a single select box containing all groups with headings "My groups" and "Other groups" with multi-select option.

2. Creating fieldset of all groups related fields. Configuring modules to use the "Groups" fieldset.

If either of these are already done please let me know otherwise i'll continue to dig further. Thanks.

Digging into this further I think my first question relating to the Audience select box is related to the og selection handler and possibly creating a new one.

It seems there are several issues between og and commons issue queues relating to changing the og selection handler. This is new to me. I'm not yet sure if I am on the right path.

Title: Use D6 appearance for content node edit group related fields » Changing audience og widget type.
Status: Active » Closed (works as designed)

ok, it is simple to change the Groups audience widget on each content type for group content. Go to manage fields and edit the Groups audience field making changes to the og widget type. Bearing in mind that changing the widget type may have scalability issues.

I am changing the issue title and making the status to Closed (works as designed). Makes sense to me, now :-)
