Hello all!

I've been programming for a while, but have only been working full-time in Drupal Development for about 4 months. Anyway, thought it was time to introduce myself and start getting involved in the community.

I've been reading up and perusing the issue queue, but wanted to reach out and get some feedback from the pros who have been here much longer. Though I have done a good amount of module extension and customization so far, I'm looking to get started with smaller contributions, such as documentation and code fixes, maybe patches. Does anyone have any tips or pointers on good places to start? I'm not looking for anyone to hold my hand, just to point me in the right direction and maybe share some experience on how they got started contributing. Anyway, it's a pleasure to be part of this community, and I look forward to meeting more of the cool folks involved with Drupal. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hello and welcome.

docs can be created and edited by anyone with a drupal.org account. IIRC the only pages that can't be edited are those deemed 'official' documentation. At which point an issue would need to be generated in the issue queue.

patches can be provided via the issue queue of any module or the drupal core project.

I'd highly suggest using IRC to get more involved in the project. There are many initiatives that you can be pointed to from IRC. https://www.drupal.org/irc

Awesome-- and welcome! As VM said, irc is definitely a good place to go. Also see this comment I made recently on a very similar post: https://www.drupal.org/node/2335217#comment-9134211.

There is a good initiative: "...drupalladder.org contains (or links to) lessons and materials to help people learn about and contribute to Drupal..."
