I'm having some issue on a Commons 3.17 install where following a group does not seem to also follow the content for that group (unless you are the one who created that content). I was able to verify the behavior on a fresh 3.17 DevDesktop install.

I found this issue that seems similar (https://www.drupal.org/node/1989472) but that issue was closed and seems a little different.

Steps to reproduce (on fresh 3.17 Commons install with only default user and Engineer team group):

  • Create a post in Engineering team
  • Add new user. User cannot see any content when choosing "Content you're following" as expected.
  • Add new user to Engineering team. It now indicated new user is Following Engineering team. New user cannot see any content when choosing "Content you're following". I think this is still expected behavior since the user wasn't following the group when the content was created.
  • Create a new post in Engineering team with original user. There is still no content when choosing "Content you're following". This is the bug.
  • Create a new post in Engineering team with the new user. New user sees own content but original user does not see the new content in Engineering when selecting "Content you're following".

This behavior continued when adding a third user.

Edit to clean up formatting.

If this is not user error of some sort is seems to be a fairly *major issue. Updating as such.
