I am new to drupal and have spent a couple of weeks exploring. I have installed Net beans and the drupal libraries but... I am having trouble organizing the different types of function calls in my head. I have visited api.drupal.org but I was not able to see the big picture.
Does anyone know a good place to start?
Thanks in advance.

That's going to take a while.

I got my mind around it by working through the Drupal Module Development boo:k.

Before you do that though you should be comfortable building sites without writing any PHP.
If you're not yet, I recommend Using Drupal, from O'reilly:

Thanks Sam. I was thinking books would be the next step.
